MELROSE — Marie A. (Calliends) Scanlan, 105, of Melrose, entered into eternal rest on June 1, 2018. Devoted and loving wife of the late John L. Scanlan with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was born and raised in East Boston and moved to Melrose in 1955. She was an active member of St. Mary’s church in Melrose.
More than anything, Marie relished being a wife and mother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She loved being a hostess and giving dinner parties. Marie enjoyed spending time in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, visiting Foxwoods and Las Vegas. For many years she and her husband traveled to Florida every winter. Everyone who knew her knew she loved getting scratch tickets and with her late husband enjoyed visiting race tracks. While her husband would carefully study a horse’s track record before betting, Marie won many times just by using the numbers of family’s birthdays.

Cherished grandmother of Ann Marie Scanlan and her husband, Gabriel Vicoveanu of Melrose and Kevin P. Scanlan and his wife Meghan of New Canaan, Conn. Joyous great grandmother to Quinn P.
