MELROSE — Mark Upham Sutton, 64, most recently of Seattle, Washington died on January 15, 2018.

He was born in Winchester, Virginia on July 1, 1953 and lived in Moorefield, West Virginia until age three, when his family moved to Michigan. As a child, teenager and young adult, he spent many enjoyable summers in Melrose with his grandmother, Olive Upham Mildram.

Mark received his elementary and secondary education in several public schools throughout southern Michigan, graduating high school in 1971.

He lived in several towns and cities in Michigan until age 18, when he moved to Texas and worked for the University of Texas for several years.

Mark moved to Seattle in 1990, working for a few local employers until he became a dedicated employee of the Seattle School District in 1994 and, after working in several minor School District positions, he spent the past 22 years in the accounting department of the school district, where he was employed at the time of his death.

His surviving brother, Paul, of Ocean View, New Jersey and his Seattle School District family had the highest praise for his work ethic, his willingness to “give you the shirt off his back” if you asked for it, his ever-present good humor and funny stories and his “once a friend, always a friend” outlook.

His health, fragile in recent years, worsened after a traumatic fall in 2016, leading to his premature death at age 64 in mid-January 2018.

Interment was Wednesday, September 26 in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
