MELROSE — Michael P. Merrick, 40, of Melrose, passed away on Oct. 11, 2019.

Michael was born and raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1997. He was a lifelong Melrose resident and worked for Brox Industries in Dracut as a laborer for the Laborer’s Union Local # 22 for 18 years. Michael was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed playing little league baseball in Melrose and football for the Melrose High School football team. He was very kind, friendly, had a big heart and a great smile. Michael always cared for others and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed his work and his nieces, nephews and family was the most important part of his life.  

Michael was the loving son of Christine (Stella) DeFazio and her husband Frank of Melrose. Beloved son of Richard G. Merrick Jr. of Melrose. Cherished grandson of Edmund and the late Lucy Ronayne of Melrose and the late Richard and Florence Merrick. Caring brother of Tracy Zullo and her husband Christopher of Wakefield and Joseph Merrick and his wife Julie of Melrose. Devoted uncle of Isabella, Christopher, Nicholas and Kaia Rose. Also survived by aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.  

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, Oct. 18 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
