SOMERVILLE — Muriel Ann (McPhee) Frederick, 85, of Somerville, died at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer on May 11, 2018. Muriel was born and raised in Somerville and a graduate of St. Clements High School, Class of 1950. She resided in Somerville until 2001 and the past 16 years in Woburn.

Muriel worked as an administrative assistant for Massachusetts Institute of Technology for many years before her retirement and also worked as a switchboard operator for N. E. Telephone for several years. She enjoyed watching Ted Turner classic movies and Masterpiece Theatre. Muriel was always “very kind” and “never had a bad word about anyone.” She loved to spend her time with her children and grandchildren and her family was the most important part of her life.

Muriel was the beloved wife of the late Clifford Frederick for 53 years. Loving mother of Helene Hanifin and her husband James of Hubbardston, Catherine Colosimo and her husband Edward of Wilmington, Christopher Frederick of Salem, Allison Frederick and her companion Douglas Pierce of Nashua, N.H., and the late Susan Frederick. Cherished grandmother of Kristyn, Lisa, Matthew, Christopher, Sarah, Emily, Leah, Brian and Connor. Caring sister of John McPhee of Arlington, Vonnie Fret and her husband Richard of Fla., Edith Dauphinee and her husband Jack of Wash., Irene Melanson and her husband Joseph of Peabody, and the late Helene Colbert. Former sister-in-law of the late Gene Colbert. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, May 16. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home was on Thursday, May 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St., Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
