IPSWICH — Nance W. Hallstrom, 84, of Ipswich, formerly of Rockport and Lynnfield, died Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Kaplan Family Hospice House.

Nance was born on August 4, 1933 in Winchester, one of three children of the late Hayward H. and Laura G. (Wheeler) Pottle. Nance grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1951.

Nance was very close to her parents and brothers. They were always doing something together as a family throughout their lives, whether celebrating birthdays or just getting together for cookouts. These gatherings continued and were passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Nance worked hard to support her family and raise her children, working multiple jobs to do what it took to make sure her children were well taken care of and loved. Nance was a Branch Manager and Assistant Treasurer at the Granite Savings Bank in Rockport, where she lived for many years. She also worked at the Melrose Wakefield Trust Company, Stoneham Savings Bank, Kernwood Restaurant and the Oceanview Hotel in Gloucester.

An excellent role model, she instilled in her children that through hard work, love, and a good dose of humor, one could accomplish most anything. Nance’s family was most important to her, she was incredibly proud of her children.

Nance had a love of the theater and music. She was a season ticket holder at the North Shore Music Theater for many years, attending with her family and friends. Her favorite color was red, and she splashed that color everywhere, from her clothes and shoes, and always her cars. Nance was also an avid reader. She could always be found with a book in her hand, especially if she was on the beach. Nance loved her time at the beach and ocean with her family. Her favorite beach was Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester where she visited almost daily during summer school vacations with her children and close family. Later in life she moved from Lynnfield to Rockport where she could be close to the water and beaches she loved.

In her later years, Nance spent her winters in Englewood, Florida. She loved being able to get out and about during the winter months and she made many new and lasting friends during her winters there.

Nance will be remembered as a strong, independent, and colorful woman with a big smile. She never lost her love of life, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but the stories of her will live on in her children and grandchildren, and all those she touched.

Nance is the devoted mother of Laura Smith and her husband Stephen Kelleher of Ipswich, Craig Hallstrom and his wife Kathleen of North Andover, and the late Robert Lawrence Hallstrom, Jr. Treasured sister of the late Robert Pottle and his surviving wife June of North Reading, and the late Bradford Pottle and his surviving wife Patricia of Saugus. Cherished grandmother of Alex, Kate and her husband Chris, Dan, and Brian. Caring aunt to Reba, Lisa, and Steven.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading.
