MELROSE — Nancy A. (Brooks) Sassone, 73, of Melrose, and formerly of South Boston, died peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at her home.

Nancy was born on September 8, 1945 in Quincy, one of nine children of the late George W. and Alice Marie (Culkin) Brooks. She grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School in 1963.

Nancy met Vincent J. Sassone II, while they both worked at Bradley’s Department Store. They would go on to get married in 1964 and celebrate 38 years together.

A private person, Nancy was a homebody, and enjoyed doing a crossword puzzle and having a cup of coffee while she read the newspaper. She did however, enjoy going out to the beach and tanning, and traveling around New England from time to time. She particularly liked going to Carson Beach and Castle Island.

A caring mother, Nancy was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She always looked forward to taking her grandchildren shoe shopping.

A fiercely loyal Boston sports fan, Nancy rarely missed a Red Sox or Patriots game, and enjoyed going to Fenway or Gillette Stadium to see a game when she could.
