MELROSE — Nicholas R. Maffei, 62, of Melrose, formerly of East Boston, died at the Life Care Center in Stoneham on June 3, 2018.
Nick was born in Winthrop, raised in East Boston and a graduate of Boston Technical High School. He went on receive his B.A. from Berklee College of Music and his master’s degree from Suffolk University in Business. Nick worked as a State Auditor for the Commonwealth of Mass. for many years. He loved big band, jazz music, reading and astronomy. Nick was a music instructor and put on concerts for the Reading public schools. Spending time with family was the most important part of his life.
Nick was the loving son of Irene (Campatelli) and the late Nicholas Maffei of East Boston. Devoted brother of Dolores Porziella and her husband Giuliano of Melrose. Caring uncle of Julian Porziella, Gregory Porziella and his wife Lindsay, both of Malden and Vanessa Surette & her husband Christopher of Saugus. Great uncle of Giuliana Surette & Antonio Surette, both of Saugus.
Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, June 6. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, June 7, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s/St. Lazarus Church, 59 Ashley St., East Boston. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
