Retired Lieutenant of Melrose Police Dept., 30 years of service

CAPE CORAL, Florida — Paul D Horgan passed away on November 4, 2022 after battling with dementia. He resided at High Point, an assisted living facility in Cape Coral, Florida.

Paul was born on March 27, 1935 and the son of Daniel and Florence Horgan of Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Paul was a Lieutenant with the Melrose Police Department and retired in 1992 with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War who enlisted on February 15, 1953 through February 15, 1957.

He moved to Florida in 1995 and worked as a court bailiff, juvenile justice system, and Lee County code enforcement.

He married Agatha M. Chavez and had four children. Paul is the beloved father of Eileen McGondel, Deborah Cooke, Beverly Gardner and Paul Horgan. In 2000, he married Emily Sayers who passed away in 2013 after a lengthy illness. Emily has four daughters, Julie Blair, Wendy Mead, Monica Martin and Jennifer Wardworth. Seventeen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Paul’s last wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes spread in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the birthplace of his mother.
