Had an enthusiasm for teaching and love for life

LYNN — Paul David Zimmerman, a resident of Lynn, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, November 25, 2022, at age 67.

Paul was born on July 24, 1955 in Malden, one of three sons of the late Edwin J. and Marie G. (Wandelear) Zimmerman.

Paul was raised in Malden, graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1973 and received his bachelor’s degree from Salem State College. Known affectionately as “Principal Paul,” he worked in early education for the CASS Head Start Preschool in Somerville for over 42 years. With a love for children, Paul started his career as a Teacher at Head Start and dedicated his working life to supporting his students and fellow teachers. He most recently held the position of Building Facilitator, which entailed overseeing much of the program. With his enthusiasm for teaching and love for life, Paul touched many lives while working and was beloved by the students and faculty.

In addition to his work, Paul enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Florida. More locally, New Hampshire was his happy place where he enjoyed boating, skiing, and spending time with friends and family. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, enjoyed the thrill of gambling, but most importantly to Paul, never missed a social event or family party.

Paul enjoyed life, and was always up for a good time. He was happy to be with his family for holidays, and shared his fun loving nature with his nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered.

Paul was the beloved brother of Edwin “Skip” Zimmerman and his wife Angela of Malden, and James R. Zimmerman and his wife Mary of Tewksbury. Loving uncle of Michael, Nicole, Jay, Jeff, Brian, Kevin and the late Jimbo. Also survived by many loving extended family members in CO, close friends, and dear coworkers.

Family and friends were kindly invited to gather in honor of Paul’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 9-11 a.m., followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. If you wish, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to CAAS Head Start, 280 Rindge Ave., Cambridge MA 02140 or a charity of your choice.
