STONEHAM — Pauline “Polly” (Poynter) Blier, 96, a resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Polly was born in Somerville on July 22, 1924, one of three children of the late Edwin Poynter and Margaret (Fox) Poynter. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School and Westbrook College, and proudly worked for over 30 years as an Administrative Assistant for the Lipton Tea Company.

In retirement, Polly and her husband Don enjoyed winters in Naples, Florida where they were able to golf and enjoy the sunshine together. Polly was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in several weekly golf leagues over the years. Polly also enjoyed a good game of Bridge, especially with her friends at the Stoneham Senior Center.

A sociable person, she was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed her aerobics classes, and lobster at Chauncey Creek in Kittery, Maine. While spending time at Rye Beach in New Hampshire as a child, Polly developed a love for the beach which she shared with her family throughout her life.

Polly was the beloved wife of the late Donald Blier with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Marsha DiPerri and her husband Mark of Melrose, the loving sister of the late Edwin Poynter and the late Gladys Davis, and the cherished grandmother of Erin Tobin of Merrimack, N.H., and great-grandmother of Jackson and Henry Tobin. She is also survived by her dear friend, companion and longtime caregiver, Connie.

Polly will be remembered for her good sense of humor, love of a good party, and her devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered.

Polly’s family wishes to extend thanks to the many wonderful caregivers who provided support to her, including the staff from ABC Home Healthcare and Care Dimensions.

Relatives and friends gathered for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Tuesday morning, April 20 followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
