MELROSE — Phyllis F. (Burns) Amato, 82, of Melrose, passed away at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Oct. 16, 2019.

Phyllis was born and raised in Malden and a graduate of Malden High School. She resided in Malden until 1959, East Boston for four years and the past 56 years in Melrose. Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper for Shawmut Bank in Boston, Metropolitan Bank in Melrose, Mellon Bank and Extra Leasing Company in Boston for 40 years before her retirement at the age of 63.

She enjoyed many family vacations in North Miami Beach, St. Petersburg, Fla., Disneyworld and Disneyland. Phyllis was a great cook and host and loved holiday and Sunday dinners with her family. Phyllis’s grandchildren and family were the most important part of her life.

She was the beloved wife of the late Domenic Amato for 50 years. Loving mother of Paul D. Amato and his wife Patricia of Sterling and Linda M. Falcone and her husband Vincent of Woburn. Cherished grandmother of Vincent Falcone Jr., Kevin Amato and David Falcone. Caring sister of Nancy Weymouth and the late James of Malden, Claire Strange and her husband Earl of Everett, Gloria Ward and her late husband Phillip of Saugus and the late Elizabeth Rivers and her late husband Kenneth. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Oct. 21, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
