BOSTON — Rev. Patrick J. Kelly, 94, a kind and humble priest for 70 years in the Archdiocese of Boston, passed away peacefully in Boston on Thursday, December 6, 2018.

Fr. Pat was born in Boston on April 3, 1924, one of two children of the late Patrick J. Kelly and Margaret (Mitchell) Kelly. He was raised in Brookline, where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Fr. Pat went on to graduate from Boston College (’45) and St. John’s Seminary in Brighton. He was ordained in 1948. He served on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1964 and went on to serve in the U.S. Naval Reserve, from which he retired as a Captain in 1980.

A fun loving family man, Fr. Pat cherished his sister, Peg, her sons and their families. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed visiting family in Ireland. He also loved spending time at the Cape with family and friends.

Fr. Pat was the devoted brother of the late Margaret M. “Peg” Curry and her late husband John “Bud” Curry; loving uncle of John V. Curry, Jr. and his wife Janet of La Quinta, Calif., Brian P. Curry and his wife Toni of Plymouth, and Michael T. Curry and his wife Kate of Winchester; caring great-uncle of John, Scott, Timothy, Christopher, Colleen, MJ, Kevin, and Dianna. He is also survived by several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Fr. Pat’s life during visiting hours at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main Street in Woburn, on Tuesday, December 11, followed by a funeral Mass celebration. Interment with U.S. Navy honors was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
