MELROSE — Robert J. “Griff” Griffin, 74, of Melrose, died at the Alliance at Rosewood in Peabody on Jan. 28, 2019.

Bob was born in Boston, raised in Melrose and attended Melrose High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Melrose Firefighter for 31 years before his retirement. Griff resided most of his life in Melrose and was member of the Melrose Elks Club and the Harold O’ Young V.F.W. Post #2394 in Melrose for many years.

Bob enjoyed playing golf and going on cruises to St. John, St. Maarten, the Panama Canal, Aruba and Belize. Griff loved to spend time in Florida, Maine, and New Hampshire with his family. Bob was the owner/operator of Griffin & Sons Painting Co. in Melrose for many years and was so proud of all of his grandchildren.

Griff was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (LeBlanc) Griffin for 19 years. Loving father of Robert J. Griffin and his wife Denise of Burlington, Daniel M. Griffin of N.H. and Tammy L. McClay and her husband David of Saugus. Stepfather of Renee Muse of Peabody and Thomas Muse and his wife Kathy of Weymouth. Cherished grandfather of Joshua, Robby, Matt, Ashley, Julia, Leah, Andy, Jack, Derick and Dylan. Caring brother of Patsy DeVita, Mary McFarland, William Griffin and predeceased by four siblings. Former father-in-law of Pamela Griffin of N.H. Also survived by relatives and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Feb. 4 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.nm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private.
