MELROSE — Robert L. Kenny Sr., 88, of Melrose died in Maine on June 22, 2019.

Bob was born in Medford where he spent his youth. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School. He then joined the Air Force serving during the Korean War conflict in North Africa occasionally working as the base disc jockey. He married early in his enlistment to Peggy, his wife of 67 years. They raised their four children, first in Somerville before settling in Melrose. Bob made a career in the Telephone Company (Ma Bell) starting as a technician and retiring after 38 years as a supervisor.

He enjoyed spending his free time golfing, boating, traveling, listening to music and eating out, but most enjoyed spending time with family, friends and dog Mindy while sitting on his screen porch at his home in Melrose. Bob had a great sense of humor and a ready smile for all. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Margaret M. “Peggy” (Bowen) Kenny. Loving father of Robert L. Kenny Jr. of Stoneham, Maureen Aleksa and her late husband Walter of Andover, Thomas Kenny and his wife Joan of Bedford, and Arlene Yasi and her husband William of Wakefield. Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Caring brother of the late John Kenny and brother-in-law of Thomas and Cheryl Bowen of Lamoine, Maine.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wednesday, June 26. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home on Thursday morning June 27, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
