Loved golfing, traveling and cherished time with his grandkids

LOWELL – Robert John LaGrega, 75, of Lowell, formerly of Melrose, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, surrounded by his family at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Joan LaGrega, and they would have celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary in September.

Born in Somerville on October 20, 1947, Bob was the son of the late John A. LaGrega and Sophie (Leoncello) LaGrega. He grew up in Somerville, where he attended and graduated from Somerville High School. After high school he attended Franklin Institute of Technology. He also served in the United States Air Force, with an Honorable Discharge in 1978.

Bob and his family moved to Melrose, where he lived for over 30 years, and he worked as a project manager for numerous significant construction projects, including TD Garden, Mohegan Sun, and the new terminal at LaGuardia Airport.

In 2007, Bob and his wife Joan relocated to Lowell. Bob loved spending time golfing, camping, traveling, and going on cruises, but his favorite place to visit was Aruba. He was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox. Above all else, Bob adored his German shepherd, Lucy, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and most recently his great-granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, Joan E. (Callahan) LaGrega of Lowell, Bob is survived by his children Maureen Hackett of Lowell and Robert LaGrega and his wife Michele of Lowell; his grandchildren Kayla LaGrega, Megan LaGrega, Emily LaGrega, Annie LaGrega, Logan Hackett, and Brendan Hackett; his great-granddaughter Winter Almonte; his sister Maria Nolan and her husband Mark of South Yarmouth, and his brother Stephen LaGrega and his wife Doreen of Derry, N.H. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

On Sunday, March 26, 2023 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 2 until 6 p.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852. His funeral procession will form on Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, and his funeral Mass will be offered at the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Burial in the Lowell Cemetery.
