MELROSE — William F. Mokeler, Jr., 76, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Dexter House in Malden.

Born in Boston, on April 18, 1942, he was the son of the late William F. Mokeler and Mary Hilda (Davis) Mokeler. He was raised in Revere where he graduated from Revere High School. Bill enlisted in the United States Army at age 18 at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Bill returned home and married Dorothy M. Robinson in 1965. They settled in Melrose to raise a family of three sons.

Bill began his career in the printing industry working for the Melrose Free Press. After several years he became a bindery man, at a few printing companies, his favorite being Four Star Printing. He enjoyed the honest work in the print field, finally retiring after over 40 years of hard work.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed the outdoors with his wife, and three sons. He loved camping, in particular Brickett Place in Maine and Camp Nihan in Saugus where he enjoyed many camping trips exploring the hiking trails and fishing. Bill truly loved to spend time in the natural environment. Very experienced, he could handle any situation that arose in the woods. When his sons were young, he also served as Scout Leader and later became a Scout Master for a local Boy Scout Troop in Melrose.

Good with his hands, Bill could fix anything around the house, and in his free time, enjoyed woodworking. A genuine good guy, Bill will be missed, but forever remembered.

Bill was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. (Robinson) “Dot” Mokeler with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Devoted father of William F. Mokeler III of Malden, David M. Mokeler of Malden, and Michael P. Mokeler of Melrose. Caring brother of Helen Gerry, Charles Mokeler, Michael Mokeler, Patricia McIntire, and the late Ann Smith, and Mary Sandelin. Also survived by his cherished dog, Willie.
