Korean War veteran

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. — William P. Cosgrove, 82, of Charlestown, R.I. and formerly of Oakville, Conn. died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Gordon) Cosgrove. They were married for 42 years before her death in 2002.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y. on December 5, 1935 he was the son of the late William P. and Margaret (Cummings) Cosgrove. He was a veteran who served his country proudly during the Korean War and was a nine year member of the New York National Guard. William was a Sales Manager for many years in the transportation industry before his retirement in 2010. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who enjoyed reading, walking on the local Rhode Island beaches and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Bill will be sadly missed by his four children; William P. Cosgrove of Melrose, Mass., Kathy L. Cosgrove of Warwick, R.I., Kevin M. Cosgrove and his wife Julie of Wakefield, Mass. and John G. Cosgrove of Newington, Conn. and by his two grandchildren Liam K. and Logan M. Cosgrove. He also leaves his sisters Mary Seitz of Massapequa, N.Y. and Theresa Lyons of Medford, N.Y. He was predeceased by his sister; Cecilia Savarese.

His funeral was held on Wednesday July 18 from the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. St. Pius X. Church, 44 Elm St. Westerly, R.I. Calling hours were held Wednesday morning 10 – 11:30 a.m. Burial in River Bend Cemetery, Beach St. Westerly, R.I.
