A great cook who loved preparing meals for her family

MELROSE — Elizabeth (Napoli) Pitari, 94, of Melrose, died peacefully on November 18, 2021. She was born in Boston on September 3, 1927 to Gaetano and Maria (Corrao) Napoli. She was raised in the West End of Boston and attended Boston Public Schools.

Elizabeth and her late husband Joseph (Tom) moved to Melrose in 1956 to raise their family and remained at the same home on Meridian Street ever since. In addition to raising her family, Elizabeth also worked as a lunch mother at the Winthrop School in Melrose, as well as at the Continental Restaurant in Saugus. She was a great cook and loved preparing meals for her family. Elizabeth’s family would like to thank her nurses Michele and Maureen, as well as her aide Janipher, for the dedicated and loving care they provided.

Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Pitari. Loving mother of Carol A. Ducrow and her husband, Michael, of Reading and Richard J. Pitari and his wife, Patricia, of Georgetown. Proud grandmother of Erica Fodera and her husband, Frank; Michael Ducrow; Daniel Pitari and great-grandmother of Sophia and James. She was predeceased by her nine siblings: Mary, Clara, Frank, Salvatore, Josephine, Charles, Natale, Andrew and Alfred. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind two family dogs Tessa and Herman, who brought her great comfort and joy.

Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. A funeral service was held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 12:30 p.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elizabeth’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to your local food pantry.
