THE YMCA OF METRO NORTH invites the community to participate in holiday drives to provide gifts and scholarships to youth in our region.

MELROSE — The YMCA of Metro North invites members and the community to spread holiday cheer by supporting giving trees, toy drives, and other charitable events across our locations. YMCA branches in Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, and Saugus will accept donations and distribute gifts and YMCA scholarships to area children and families in need.

Each branch location will host their annual Angel Tree. Participants can select an angel from the tree and purchase books, clothing, and toys from a child’s holiday gift wish list, or choose to provide a child with a scholarship to access YMCA youth development, summer camp, swim lessons, and other educational programs. Angels will be available in YMCA lobbies beginning Wednesday, December 1st.

“For some children, these may be the only gifts they receive this holiday season,” explains Kathleen Walsh, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “Our holiday drives have always been a great success. Whether its toys, gifts, donations, or coats, our community is always stepping up with their generosity to help when people need them the most.”

In addition to the Angel Trees, other holiday drives at YMCA of Metro North locations include Coat Drives at the Demakes Family YMCA in Lynn and Y Academy in Stoneham.

A Toy Drive at the Gymnastics Center in Saugus. The community can even give the gift of life at one of the YMCA’s blood drives in Lynn and Melrose.

“It’s rewarding to watch families encourage their children to think of others this time of year,” explains Patti Bradley, Director of Childcare at Stoneham Y Academy. “Our holiday drives are a way for us to teach children what the holiday season is really about.”
