WAKEFIELD — A minor, mid-afternoon accident between a car and a youth on a bicycle was among the matters that police handled yesterday.
Police said a woman came into the Public Safety Building at about 3:30 p.m. and said that a short time earlier her 14-year-old son had been on his bicycle in a crosswalk on Water Street in the area of Shaw’s when a car heading toward the square made contact with the bike. The boy was not knocked from the bike and the driver of the car did stop and ask if the boy was OK before leaving the scene.
The boy was not injured but there was some damage to the bike.
The car was described only as a white sedan.

Just after 9 a.m. yesterday, a Carriage Lane man walked into the Public Safety Building and reported to police that his wife’s ex had been making threats against him. Police advised all involved to stay away from each other. The man claiming he was threatened was advised on how to seek a harassment protection order from Malden District Court.

Police took a call from a woman at about 11:20 a.m. yesterday claiming that a man had yelled obscenities at her in the vicinity of Main and Lowell streets as she was riding her bike around the Lake. Police were not able to locate the man.

Just before noon yesterday, a caller reported that a parked car had been struck and there was glass in the roadway. Police issued a citation against the parked vehicle for being unregistered.

At about 2:30 p.m. yesterday, police responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated man yelling at school children from a parking lot near Main and West Water streets. Police observed no disturbance in the area but did speak to a man and a woman singing and playing the guitar.

Police were notified by a caller at about 4:30 p.m. that the railroad gates at North Avenue and Albion Street were not working properly. The MBTA arrived on the scene and corrected the problem.

At about 6 p.m. yesterday, two youths identified a man for police who they claimed had approached them yesterday and told them he was a police officer. The youths said that he opened his shirt and they observed a police emblem on his T-shirt that the man claimed was a badge. Police spoke to the man who denied the incident.

The Fire Department responded to 11 calls yesterday, nine of which were for medical aid.
At about 10:30 yesterday morning, firefighters responded to fire alarm at a Water Street restaurant. It turned out to be set off by cooking.
The Wakefield Fire Department also covered Lynnfield’s South Fire Station for about a half hour early yesterday afternoon.
