SALEM — Three Wakefield wrestlers competed in the 2016 Youth New England Wrestling Championships this past weekend at Salem High School and one of those wrestlers placed in the meet.

Nathan Ickes, son of WMHS head coach Ross Ickes, captured fourth overall at the 165 pound weight class. He went 2-2 in the tournament.

Ickes pulled out a 2-1 decision over Jared Carlson of Exeter, N.H. He then lost by fall to Richmond, Maine’s Chance Taylor. Ickes then squeaked out a 1-0 decision over Ludlow’s V. Fogg. He then lost his final match by medical forfeit to Dedham’s Ryan Mullen.

Wakefield also had two wrestlers that competed. However they did not place.

Luke Ickes, another son of the Warrior had coach, went 0-2 and did not place. He lost by fall to Bryce Parker of Timberlane, N.H. Ickes then dropped a 7-0 decision to Portland, Maine’s Cam Freedman.

Diego Winsor went 2-2 and did not place. Winsor pinned Dylan Parker of Keene, N.H. He then lost by a 7-2 decision to Marshwood, Maine’s Colby Isababelle. Winsor rebounded with a 7-6 decision over Dom Palleria of Timberlane, N.H. In his final bout, Winsor lost by fall to Fitchburg’s Collin Dudek.
