Cosgrove, Diaz, Roberto are All-Conference

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Memorial High School spring boys’ track and field team had nine Middlesex League All-Stars this season.

The Warriors had three All-Conference All-Stars: senior Logan Cosgrove (shot put), junior Bradley Diaz (400 m.) and junior Michael Roberto (2 mile).

Warriors who earned All-Star nods were: senior Tucker Stikeman, junior Ajay Haridasse, sophomore Ben Stratton and the 4×400 meter relay team of Diaz, senior Zack Jellison, senior Andrew Roos and junior James Christie.

To earn an All-Conference All-Star award, a competitor has to win their event in the Middlesex League championship.

Cosgrove won the shot put with a pr of 48’9.5” and followed that up with a 132’10” in the discus for 3rd. He went on to get second in the shot put at the D2 North state meet and 7th in the discus. At All-States, Cosgrove placed 10th with a 49’4”.

Diaz won the 400 at the Middlesex League Championship with a time of 50.22. He went on to win gold at the North sectional meet with a pr of 49.60. Diaz was also a key part of the 4×800 relay which got first at the same meet along with Stratton, Haridasse and Roberto. Diaz went on to place 5th at the All-State Championship with a 49.80.

Roberto was the league champion in the two mile with a pr time of 9:49. In addition to his 1st in the 4×800 relay, Roberto placed second in the one mile at the D2 North state meet with a 4:32. He went on to compete in the mile at the All State Meet.

Stikeman got 2nd in the 200 meters at the league championship with a pr of 23.13. He got 4th in the 100 at D2 North sectionals with an 11.52 and 4th in the 200 with a 23.55. He went on to compete in the 200 and the 100 at the All State Championship.

MICHAEL ROBERTO

Haridasse got 3rd in the mile at D2 North states with a 4:34 before teaming up with the championship 4×800 relay. He placed 17th in the mile at All-States with a five second pr of 4:29.74.

Stratton got first in the mile at states with a 4:31, joining Diaz with two first-place trophies from the meet. He went on to the All-State meet where he placed 9th in the mile with a 4:21.70, just one second off the school record.

Jellison, Roos and Christie did a great job for Wakefield’s relays all season.

Jellison teamed up with Stikeman, Haridasse and Diaz to win the 4×400 at the D3 State Relays. Jellison also got 10th in the 800 meters at the D2 North meet.

Roos and Christie teamed up with Colin Rudy and Jonathan D’Ambrosio to get 8th in the 4×400 relay at sectionals. Christie also competed in the 800 at that meet. Roos helped the sprint medley team take 5th at State Relays and Christie helped the Distance Medley Relay team take 3rd.

The Warriors went 3-2 in the regular season before taking 5th overall at the league meet. They had a great showing at the Div. 2 North state meet by getting 2nd overall as a team with 78 points, beating league rival Burlington (3rd, 75) and finishing  just 10 back of first place Amesbury.
