MELROSE—The Melrose Red Raider gymnastics team picked up their fourth straight victory with a win over Winchester last Friday night at Woburn High by a score of 135.5-129.5, and now look to be one of the teams to beat at Monday’s Middlesex League meet at Burlington High.

Melrose took three out of four events and topped in all-around scoring thanks to efforts from Ciara Smith and Katie Wright. Wright had Melrose’s best score of the night with a 9.2 in floor while Lucy Hannon had a very impressive 9.1 performance on the beam.

Melrose began the night with a 34.35 score in vault—their best event of the night—thanks for the work of Sofia Pitcher, Nicole Nzui, Ciara Smith, Grace Burke and Katie Wright, who led with a 9.05. Melrose prevailed in bars behind the efforts of Wright, Smith, Burke and Jane Harrington. The only event Winchester took from Melrose was on the beam, despite an excellent score from Melrose’s Lucy Hannon at 9.1. The Red Raiders struggled with a few falls that proved a little costly.

Fortunately, they made up for it in floor behind efforts from Taylor Pesce (8.3) Gabrielle Prodgers (8.5) Lucy Hannon (8.8) Grace Burke (8.5) Ciara Smith (8.9) and Katie Wright, who topped the night at 9.2.

Melrose is slated to compete in their last, regular season meet against Woburn on Wednesday (post-deadline) for Senior Night and will prepare to take home some hardware on Monday at the Middlesex League meet at Burlington High. Kick off is at 5:00 p.m.
