Garvey-obit-webMELROSE — Norma (Lord) Garvey, 89, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly on Wednesday, May 3.

Norma was born in Melrose on August 5, 1927, one of seven children of the late Norman and Cecile (Bishop) Lord. Raised in Melrose, Norma graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1945, and worked as the office manager at Winchester Medical Associates for over 30 years.

Family always came first for Norma. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, loving sister and grandmother. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing with her children, or spending time at the family cottage near Wingaersheek Beach.

Norma was an intelligent, sociable woman who read the Boston Globe and New York Times every day, and had many friends. More recently, she became an enthusiastic Bingo player. She will missed, but always remembered.

Norma was the beloved wife of the late Wilfred S. Garvey. She was the devoted mother of Susan E. Garvey of Peabody, and the late Stephen Garvey and his surviving wife Jill of Peabody, and the late Mary Garvey. She was the dear sister of Charlotte Eberly of Peabody, Priscilla Lord of Danvers, Virginia “Ginnie” Stanton of PA, and the late Hannah Greene, Norman Lord, Dwight Lord, Cecile Gay, and Marjorie Connors. She was the loving grandmother of Lianne M. Brown of Peabody, and great-grandmother of Stephen Brown. Also lovingly survived by many nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Norma’s life for her funeral service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose celebrated on Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
