NORTH READING — On a most beautiful spring evening last Friday, April 26, Arbor Day was celebrated at Ipswich River Park.

The park was in full bloom with Bradford Pear trees. The celebration brought together teachers, students and their parents from the North Reading Middle School, the North Reading Garden Club and other friends from the community.

The event is hosted each year by the North Reading Garden Club and an agenda of poems and history of Arbor Day are read. The students from the North Reading Middle School Choral group, directed by Carla Lister, then celebrated the occasion by singing two songs led by soloists Victoria Cerqueira and Kaia Cushing-Candelario. The North Reading Garden Club would like to thank the following students in the choral group for performing and celebrating Arbor Day: Emily Vitale, Ana Atsalis, Sydney Woods, Barrett Deninger, Alayna Cherwek, Mira Daniels, James Rainey, Teresa Hornby, Shaoli Ahmed, Paige Gilbody, Emma Steele, Bianca Mitasev, Corrina Benedict, Alyssa Gerokoulis, Tyler Costello, Aiden Buckley, Elizabeth Ayer, Fiona Rogers, Henry Grady, Rebecca Sweeney and Nico Garrett.

The tree donated to Ipswich River Park by the Garden Club this year in honor of Arbor Day was a Red Pointe Maple which will provide beautiful red fall color and shade. The North Reading Garden Club has been donating trees to the town and IRP for 30 years. “On behalf of the North Reading Garden Club, we would like to thank all who shared in the Arbor Day celebration,” commented member Suzanne Kramer.
