EXETER, N.H. — On Sunday afternoon, the North Reading A’s were edged, 4-3, by the host Northeast Tides at Exeter High School in New Hampshire on a hot, sunny day.

With that loss, the A’s record dipped to 6-13 while the Tides improved to 6-4-1.

It was North Reading’s fifth-consecutive defeat as they are now in eighth place in the North Shore Baseball League.

The Tides led 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning. The A’s then scored three times in the top of the sixth but the host regained the lead plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In that sixth inning, Max Riordan had a two-run double.

Overall, the A’s had six hits led by player-manager Frank Cassarino who was 2 for 3. Casserino is from North Reading.

Luke Martinho and North Reading resident, Mike Vittozzi, each reached base twice with a hit and a walk.

Jameson Twombly was the losing pitcher in relief as he pitched the sixth inning. He gave up three runs (two earned), tow hits and two walks. He did not record s strikeout.

Conor Quyinlan was the starter and he pitched well allowing only one run in four innings. He gave up five hits, one walk and he fanned three.

On July 2, the A’s lost on the road to the Rowley NorEasters, 2-1, at Erias Park.

North Reading had only three hits as Rob Hallowell had two while Joe Dardeno, of North Reading, had the other as the team struggled with pitcher Charlie Gagnon who went all seven frames.

Gagnon struck out six and walked three as the A’s run was unearned.

Sean Brennan was the tough-luck loser on the hill going all six innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) four hits, four walks and he struck out nine as his record fell to 2-2.

The A’s next game is July 13 as they play the North Shore Storm at Winnacunnet Park up in New Hampshire. That game will start at 2 p.m.

North Reading then hosts the Tides on July 17 at 6 p.m. at North Reading High School.
