NORTH READING — The NRHS boys’ lacrosse team beat Triton 9-4 at home in the rain on May 2 for Senior Night.

With that win, the Hornets improved to 2-5 in the CAL.

“That was a great win for us because we were able to rebound from the Medford loss the game before,” pointed out head coach Chuck Campobasso.

North Reading led 4-2 at the half as they slowly pulled away in the second half.

Logan Lamont was the star of this game as he netted a season-high five goals. Anthony Tammaro had one goal and two assists while Nick Arcari and Brendan Gazda both had one goal and one assist. C.J. Villarroel had the other goal.

Finn Rodger had two assists while David Tran made seven stops in net.

Lamont, Arcari, Zach Demitri and manager Anthony Corvino were honored before game.

On May 3, the Hornets lost at Newburyport 17-1. The Clippers were able to sweep the season series as they won the first meeting 14-6 back on April 2.

“They understand the game and play at a higher level then we normally see,” said Campobasso. “Most of them play on club teams.”

Newburyport, who improved to 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the Cape Ann League, dominated from the start, leading 12-0 at the half.

Tanner DuPriest scored the lone Hornet tally in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout and that tally was assisted by Tammaro.

Tran played in net in the first half and made four stops. Tripp Harrington was the goalie in the second half and he had six saves.

North Reading fell to 5-6 overall with the defeat.

The Hornets’ next game will be on Friday as they visit Essex Tech up in Danvers. That game will start at 6 p.m.

North Reading then visits Triton on May 14 looking for the season sweep. That contest will start at 4:30 p.m.

Heading into this week, the Hornets were ranked 22nd in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings. The top 32 teams automatically qualify for the states at the end of the season.
