NORTH READING — As the town’s high school seniors anticipate the arrival of their college acceptance letters, North Reading Dollars for Scholars is launching its annual fund-raising appeal.

On Monday night, the Select Board proclaimed March 22-26 to be “Dollars for Scholars Week” and unanimously issued a proclamation to Dollars for Scholars President Kathy Acciavatti at the board’s virtual meeting.

The Select Board also learned that year’s appeal is being done with a new twist. Rather than students dialing town residents and businesses from a phone bank to request donations, the appeal for the Class of 2021 will arrive by mail, due to the ongoing pandemic.

So be on the lookout for donation letters from Dollars for Scholars to arrive in your mailboxes the week of March 22-26. The organization is also known as “Scholarship America,” and a financial contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated by the students.

This not-for-profit organization has been supporting the higher education dreams of North Reading’s students since its inception in 1963. As a reminder to students and post-graduates who wish to apply for a scholarship award, the deadline is April 1, 2021. Applications must be done online and can be found on the Dollars for Scholars website at: northreading.dollarsforscholars.org.
