SAMANTHA GALVIN

NORTH READING — Each year, North Reading Girls Softball (NRGS) proudly offers scholarships to the graduating class.

Traditionally, the league has offered $500 awards for up to three graduating high school seniors who have matured through their youth softball program. Two of the scholarships were funded by the program and the other was generously provided by private donations in the memory of Lalitha K. Raman. This is the fifth consecutive season that the Srikanth family has given a scholarship in honor of Raman.

To be eligible, the student must be a senior graduating in the spring of 2020 but she does not necessarily have to be graduating from North Reading High School. The applicant must have been registered in the North Reading Girls Softball program for at least four years. Each of the winners submitted an essay to the NRGS Board of Directors which reflects how they have given back to the youth league since they graduated from the program, the positive influence that softball has had on their high school experience, and how softball has helped prepare and shape them for their future endeavors.

Here are the award winners for the Class of 2020:

Samantha Galvin

Highlights of Samantha Galvin’s softball career include being pulled up as part of the North Reading High School team as they won the Division 2 North Sectional Championship in 2018 and being part of the New England Storm. “We are extremely fortunate to have such great role models for the youth in our program,” said North Reading Girls Softball Board of Directors President, Jennifer Vant. “These young women have served as mentors for so many NRGS players and passed on their love of softball to the next generation. It is our pleasure to grant these three amazing young ladies scholarships to help fund their future educational endeavors.”
