NORTH READING — North Reading High School’s DECA club continues to grow year after year. The club was founded with 12 members during its inaugural year (2019-2020). Membership increased to 25 members during the 2020-2021 school year and 85 members in the 2021-2022 school year.

This year, members enjoyed a day of competition at the District 4 Regional Competition held at the Boxborough Regency on December 9, 2021 where eight competitors earned a spot to attend the Massachusetts DECA State Career Development Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott/Hynes Convention Center from March 10-12, 2022.

The eight members were Owen Delano (1st place in Accounting Applications), Jenna Mahoney (3rd place in Accounting Applications), Tyler Murphy (3rd place in Human Resource Management), Gianna Naulivou (5th place in Apparel & Accessories Marketing), Landon Phillips (5th place in Business Services Marketing), Jason Lord (5th place in Quick Service Restaurant Management), Mahir Mugdho (5th place in Marketing Communications) and Alan Rawle (5th place in Restaurant & Food Service Marketing).

“DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be college and career ready. Members are exposed to and compete in career clusters including Marketing, Finance, Hospitality and Management,” explains DECA faculty advisor, Mrs. Nicole Pierce.

The 2020-2021 DECA officers who have helped promote interest in the club and its activities are President Aidan Nadeau, Vice President Kiernan Schulz, Secretary Cody Cannalonga, Treasurer Casey O’Connor, Public Relations Coordinator Landon Phillips, and Fundraising Co-Coordinators Andrew Daley and Jack Fischer.
