ROCKPORT — After losing their first match of the season last Thursday, the North Reading High golf team rebounded on Tuesday afternoon as they beat host Rockport, 137-113, at Rockport Golf Club.

With that win, the Hornets improved to 6-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

“This was a must-win after that loss,” said Hornets head coach Brian McAuliffe. “It shows the character of this team so I was very happy with them.”

Isabel Brozena led the team in scoring with 31 points while sophomore, Conrad Gerber, had 26 points. Max Forristall and Thomas Gazda were tied for third with 21 points each.

“Only two of our players have played there before,” pointed out McAuliffe. “Home course is big in golf but we were able to still get the win.”

On Sept. 14, the Hornets fell to host Newburyport, 152-137, at Rowley Country Club.

“They have a deep consistent team from one to eight,” said McAuliffe, as the Clippers have only one loss as well.

Brozena, a senior who plays at the number-one slot, led the team in scoring again as she had 30 points. Liam Blanchette and Leo Romanski both chipped in 25 points.

The next match for the Hornets will be on Sept. 26 as they host Essex Tech at Hillview County Club. That event will start at 3:30 p.m.
