NORTH READING — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High golf team beat guest Rockport, 145-134, on a hot late summer day at Hillview Golf Club.
With that victory, the Hornets improved to 4-0.
Jason Curran led the team in points (Stableford scoring) with 33. Leo Romanski was second with 26 while Tom Gazda was third with 25. Fourth in scoring was Liam Talbert who had 24.
The final two scores that counted were Conrad Gerber (20) and Max Forristall (17).
“Most of the guys didn’t do as well as they wanted,” said Hornets head coach Jon Kiniry, despite the result. “Our top players did produce.”
On Sept. 12, the Hornets had a key early-season win as they beat visiting Newburyport, 172-157, on another hot, sunny day.
“That win was pretty big,” stated Kiniry. “The kids and parents pointed it out to me since I was not here last year.”
Newburyport came in second place in the Cape Ann League Kinney Division to Lynnfield last season and are major contenders for the CAL Kinney crown again this season.
“It was our biggest win of the season so far,” Kiniry added.
Gazda led the way against the Clippers as he scored a match-high 33 points.
“He had a breakout match,” said Kiniry.
Curran, Liam Blanchette and Romanski were all right behind Gazda with 32 points each.
Gerber and senior Steven Desigle rounded out the top six scorers as Gerber had 22 points while Desigle had 21.
On Sept. 23, the Hornets host Georgetown at 3:30 p.m. The next day, they go to Reedy Meadow in Lynnfield to take on host Essex Tech. That match will also start at 3:30 p.m.
