NORTH READING — The North Reading High golf team stayed perfect on Monday afternoon as they beat guest Georgetown, 164-157, on a cloudy, cool, day at Hillview Golf Club.

With the victory, the Hornets improved to 5-0.

Jason Curran led the way shooting even par to score a match-high 36 points (Stableford scoring).

“He was very impressive,” said Hornets first-year head coach Jon Kiniry about the senior. “The other day in practice, he shot two under so for him to shoot par is no surprise.”

Leo Romanski and Tom Gazda were both tied for second with 27 points each.

“I have to give my props to those two players,” said Kiniry.

Conrad Gerber had 26 points while Max Forristall scored 25.

The final score that counted was Liam Blanchette with 23 points.

“This was the first match we played that the weather was cool,” pointed out Kiniry. “It really felt like fall out there but the kids adjusted to the weather.”

On Sept. 26, the Hornets go to Sagamore Spring to take on Lynnfield at 3:30 p.m.

“It’s a big match,” said Kinery, as the Pioneers are the defending Cape Ann League Kinney Division champions and they beat the Hornets twice last fall.

On Sept. 20, the Hornets host Amesbury at 3:30 p.m.

The next two matches are on the road as they face Hamilton-Wenham on Oct. 2 and Pentucket on Oct. 3. Both of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.

The Hamilton-Wenham match will be at the Myopia Hunt Club while the Pentucket match will take place at the Haverhill Country Club.
