NORTH READING — Sophomore Cody Cannalonga led all scorers with 19 as the NRHS boys’ basketball team earned a key road victory, 77-60, over the Masconomet Chieftains on Jan. 19.

Junior captain Will Taylor scored all of his 16 points from the foul line shooting an unheard of 16-for-18.  Senior Ryan Kavanaugh added a career-high 14 points.

Cannalonga sparked NRHS with an astounding five 3-pointers in the first quarter for what Head Coach Joe Casey described as the “best shooting performance I’ve ever seen.”

North Reading hit six 3’s in the quarter, scored an incredible 27 points and had a massive 27-8 lead at end of the first. Foul shooting kept the Hornets comfortably ahead in the second. They shot 8-for-12 from the charity stripe in the quarter and took a 39-24 lead into the half.

The Chieftains put up a fight in the third quarter, but every time Masco threatened to climb back into the game NR had a response. Junior guard Brayden Scribner had eight points in the period and the advantage was 11 at the start of the fourth. The Hornets continued to build the lead in the final period and cruised to a much-needed victory.
