NORTH READING — Longtime North Reading High School boys’ basketball head coach Joe Casey was honored recently by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association for earning his 200th career victory last season at their annual Hall of Fame Banquet at Holy Cross College. Casey, a 1988 NRHS graduate, officially entered the MBCA Victory Club, joining a distinguished list of current and retired coaches including former Hornet coach Barry Kipnes and his father Joe Sr., longtime coach and athletic director at Masconomet.

“This recognition is a reflection on all of the kids who have played for us over the past 17 years,” commented Casey, who was also quick to credit longtime assistants Mark Bisognano and Chris Sullivan for the success of the program. “Without them, all of these victories wouldn’t have been possible.”

Casey hopes to add to the win total as the 2018-19 squad opens up their season on the road Friday night at CAL power Newburyport at 7 p.m. The Hornets return to the friendly confines of Kipnes Court for their home opener on Tuesday night vs. Amesbury at 7 p.m.
