NORTH READING — After a slow start, the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team rebounded to defeat visiting Hamilton-Wenham, 11-6, on Tuesday afternoon. With that victory, the Hornets improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Cape Ann League.

Early in the second quarter, the Generals led 3-1. However, the Hornets scored the next four goals to lead 5-3 at the half.

“That second quarter was the key,” said North Reading head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We played really well defensively and Logan (Lamont) put us on his shoulders scoring three times that quarter.”

From there, the Hornets were able to pull away in the second stanza.

Lamont finished the day with five goals and two assists to lead the attack. Nick Afcari scored four times while PJ Conte had one goal and a team-high four assists.

Finn Rodger had one goal and two helpers while Anthony Tamarro had one assist to round out the scoring.

Hornet goalie David Tran made 13 saves to go to 2-1.

“He bailed us out, especially early on and he also did a good job of clearing the ball,” said Campobasso.

The game at Essex Tech slated for April 5 was postponed due to the weather and was played on April 10 (results not available at press time).

North Reading’s next game will be on Patriot’s Day next Monday as they visit Northeast Tech in Wakefield. That game will start at 10 a.m. since it is April Vacation Week.
