NORTH READING — With 14 players returning with significant varsity experience, the Hornets boys’ soccer team will look to rebound from a disappointing 2017 season and qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2016.

Returning seniors David Tingley, Trevor Wilson and Ben Tayas will serve as tri-captains.

“All three are strong leaders and have set a proper tone for the season in practice,” said head coach Mark Bisognano.

Tingley will be counted on for a big chunk of the offense, but seniors Casey Robarts and Joey DiSanto, juniors Cam Chinchillo and Justin Capezzuto and sophomore Mark Tramontozzi will be relied on for scoring as well.

Wilson, Tayas, junior Ryan McKinney and sophomore Sam McGeachie will, as Bisognano says, “lock down the midfield with relentless defense and have the ability to go forward and join the attack.”

On defense, seniors Francis Walsh, Sean Haynes, Kevin Wall, Duncan Macneil, Alex Beherrell and sophomore John Tramontozzi make up an experienced back line that will play in front of junior goalkeeper Will Carpenter.

With so much returning talent Bisognano is confident that this team can return to the state tournament.

“I feel like this team is strong enough to qualify for states, but qualifying in the Cape Ann League is no easy task.  The CAL has proven time and again through state tournament results that it is one of the strongest leagues in the North Section.  But I think that if we stay healthy and play to our capabilities, we will not only qualify, but be a contender in the Division 3 North Sectional.”
