NORTH READING — The one-week layoff did not affect the North Reading High boys’ tennis team on Monday afternoon as they beat Rockport, 4-1, at home. With that victory, the Hornets improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Cape Ann League.

At first singles, Roman Ton won, 6-2, 6-4, Second-singles player Parker Lee lost in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 while Sameer Murthy won, 6-4, 6-4, at third singles.

In doubles action, the first team of Ricky Ho and Raffi Toby won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. The second pairing of John Pastore and Aiden Patel also won in two sets, 6-2, 6-1.

“The doubles teams were very solid,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “John played really well and he now has a good flow with Aiden. The first team is working well together and I like the pairing.”

The team had a week in between matches because the May 2 match at Pentucket was postponed due to issues on the Pentucket side.

That match will be made up on Thursday (May 9) at 4 p.m.

On May 10, the Hornets visit undefeated Lynnfield. They then host Ipswich on May 13 and welcome Newburyport on May 15. All three of those matches will also start at 4 p.m.

The Hornets are seeded 19th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings. The top 32 teams at the end of the regular season automatically qualify for the state tournament.
