SEEKONK — The North Reading boys’ track and field team showcased its depth this past weekend competing at the Division 5 MSTCA State Relays on Saturday at Seekonk High School. With a team filled mostly with 9th-11th graders, the Hornets were able to hold their own, showing a promising future as they finished in 3rd place with 41 points behind second place East Bridgewater (56 points) and team champion Weston (85 points).  Rounding out the top five teams were Norwell (36) and Lynnfield (34).

The Hornets scored 41 points across six events, taking 1st in the Shot Put, 2nd in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Long Jump Relay and Pole Vault Relay, 3rd in the Discus Throw Relay and 6th in the 4 x 1600 Meter Relay.

Leo Romanski and Otto Indelicato led the throws squad in the Discus Throw and Shot Put Relays while Nico Johnson and Daniil Baranetski scored in the Pole Vault and Shuttle Hurdles and Long Jump and Shuttle Hurdles respectively.

The Shot Put Relay was made up of Romanski (42’ 7.5”), Indelicato (41’ 8”), and Michael DelVecchio (36’ 9”).

The Shuttle Hurdle Relay team went 1:08.16 with Daniil Baranetski, Kaio Pancini, Nico Johnson, and Torin Nickerson.

The Long Jump Relay was made up of Kieran Miller (21’ 0”), Noah Schifano (20’ .25”) and Daniil Baranetski (19’ .75”).

The Pole Vault Relay was made up of Nicolas Johnson (11’ 6”), Brian Conlon (8’ 6”) and Frank Dearborn (8’ 0”).

The Discus Throw Relay was made up of Leo Romanski (143’ 7”), Otto Indelicato (125’ 5”) and Nikolas Laverdiere (98’ 6”).

The 4×1600 Meter Relay team that ran 21:23.61 was made up of James Dillon, Cole Fabrizio, Nalo Benedict and Alex Mitasev.

The Hornets have now set their goal towards defeating Newburyport next week on May 8 at North Reading High. It will be no easy task as the Clippers are undefeated and looking to repeat as Cape Ann League Champions.
