Ligor breaks school record in high jump

BOSTON — The NRHS girls’ indoor track and field team opened up their season on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Track at New Balance with a solid victory over Triton with a score of 61-39. The team gave their all to ensure this victory, making it a great start to their season.

In the 55 Meter Hurdles, Hayden MacLellan got first place with a time of 9.06 seconds. Giuliana Auciello got third place with her time of 10.35 seconds. In the 55 Meter Dash, the Hornets swept with Georgia Robarts (7.90), Julia DeAngelis (8.06) and Julia Scammon (8.17).

In the 300 Meter Dash, Marisa Montana got second place with her time of 47.64 with Isabelle Lazure (49.26) taking third place. In the 600 Meter Dash, Giuliana Ligor won first place out of the entire meet, with a time of 1:43.16.

In the 1000, Quinlan Kelley qualified for the state championship with her extremely impressive time of 3:25.84. Paige Helferich ran well, breaking her goal of 4 minutes with her time of 3:59.22 with Eva Hanegraaff not far behind (4:01.23). In the One Mile Callie MacLellan (5:44.82) got second place. Adelyn Kelly also ran an impressive race with a time of 6:22.46, starting her first high school track season off strong.

In the Two Mile Ava Collins (13:35) got first place with Riley Macdonald (14:15.05) taking third place, an impressive beginning to her first high school track season.

In High Jump, the Hornets had another sweep, with all three athletes qualifying for the State Championship. Giuliana Ligor was victorious, jumping 5’ 5”, qualifying for state championship and breaking the 15-year North Reading High School record. The previous record was set in 2008 by Amy Wing when she jumped 5’ 3.” Callie MacLellan (5’ 0”) got second place and Giuliana Auciello (4’ 10”) completed the sweep of the event securing third.

In the Long Jump, Georgia Robarts (15’ 7.5”) took first place in the event with Hayden Maclellan (15’ 1.75”) taking second place. Sabrina Mini won the Shot Put (27’ 3”) with Jaquelyn Genzler (25’ .5”) taking second place in her first ever track meet.

To end the meet, Georgia Robarts, Marisa Montana, Isabelle Lazure, and Julia Scammon ran the 4×200 Meter Relay, in that order. They all ran a strong race but were unfortunately disqualified for a lane violation.

Callie MacLellan, Hayden MacLellan, Adelyn Kelly and Quinlan Kelly ran the 4×400 Meter Relay, with a time of 4:45.62, which was a solid first meet effort but did not result in a win.

All in all, the girls had an extremely strong start to their season with many meets ahead of them. They plan to train hard and qualify more athletes for the end of season state championship over the next two months.
