NORTH READING — The Lady Hornets picked up their first CAL victory with an impressive 49-34 victory over the defending D3 North Champion Amesbury Indians on December 19.

Sophomore Lauren Sullivan was terrific and earned a 12 point, 10 rebound double double. Senior tri-captain Taylor Moore poured in a team-high 14 points.

It was a tight first quarter. The score was tied for most of the quarter but a late three-pointer from junior Mia DeNofrio gave North Reading a 13-12 lead after one. The second quarter would prove to be a different story as NRHS took it to Amesbury. Their stifling defense was too much for the Indians and the Hornets outscored them 14-3 to take a 27-15 lead into the half.

Amesbury was able to slow down the Hornet offense in the third quarter and whittled the lead down to 35-28 after three. But North Reading quickly put any thoughts of a comeback to bed in the fourth. NRHS opened the quarter on an 11-2 run and cruised to the 15-point victory.

The Hornets home game against Pentucket scheduled for Friday Dec. 22 was postponed to a later date not yet announced. North Reading traveled to Winthrop Wednesday after press time and will compete in the Pope John Tournament at Pope John High School in Everett on Thursday.
