Hornets win Pope John Holiday Tournament; improve to 4-1

EVERETT — Sophomore guard Allie Grasso was named tournament MVP as North Reading beat the Winthrop Vikings and Pope John Tigers by a combined score of 106-42 to clinch the Holiday Tournament title last Thursday.

NRHS defeated Winthrop 50-29 in the first game and demolished Pope John 56-13 in the finals.

Grasso scored 12 points and had 10 steals in the first game and picked up 10 points and 8 steals in the championship. Junior Mia DeNofrio was a defensive stalwart with 11 steals in game one and 6 steals in game two. Sophomore Lauren Sullivan was named to the tournament All-Star team and senior tri-captain Victoria Grasso scored 13 points in the finals.
