NORTH READING — With eight players returning from last season’s state tournament team, the 2017-2018 Lady Hornets will look to return to states for an impressive eighth straight season.

“This team has a lot of experience. Our biggest challenge will be rebounding as our tallest player is 5’7”. But we are still expecting a successful season,” said Head Coach Bob Melillo.

Senior Tri-Captains Taylor Moore, Victoria Grasso, and Noel Riley; juniors Casey McAuliffe and Mia DeNofrio; sophomores Lauren Sullivan, Kiley McCarthy and Ali Grasso all return with significant varsity experience.

McAuliffe, who was a Cape Ann League All-Star last season, will be counted on for scoring. But in order for the Hornets to navigate the CAL, the rest of the returners will need to provide plenty of points.

There are also five newcomers who will see playing time as well. Juniors Sydney Davis and Giuliana Vittozzi; sophomores Maggie Majeski and Julia DiNapoli and freshman Julia Howes will round out the roster.

North Reading will once again face tough competition in the CAL. Pentucket, Masco, Newburyport and Amesbury should be very strong as they return many experienced players. But Melillo expects his team can qualify for the state tournament and compete for a CAL title.
