ROCKPORT — The NRHS girls’ soccer team took the long bus ride out to Rockport on October 15 and downed the Vikings 3-0. Senior captain Kaitlyn Shevlin, junior Joanna Kellogg and freshman Madison DiNapoli scored for North Reading. Junior Alyssa Prusik had two assists and senior captain Alyssa Crugnale made six saves to earn the shutout.

The game remained scoreless for almost the entire first half. But with just four seconds left in the half, Shevlin scored to nudge NRHS in front 1-0.

The second half played out much like the first. Once again though, the offense awoke with the clock ticking down. Kellogg and DiNapoli would add goals in the 73rd and 80th minutes to propel the Hornets to victory.

State Tourney hopes dashed by Newburyport

The Lady Hornets hopes of qualifying for the state tournament were dashed by the Newburyport Clippers who defeated North Reading 3-1 on October 17. Joanna Kellogg scored the only goal for NRHS.

The Clippers got off to a fast start as they got the scoring started 5:20 into the game. For the remainder of the opening half, it was a defensive struggle and the score stayed 1-0 as the halftime whistle blew.

Early on in the second half, Newburyport made it 2-0 with their tally in the 45th minute. The second goal didn’t deter the Hornets. In the 71st minute, Kellogg scored to cut the lead in half. Unfortunately, the Clippers put any thoughts of a North Reading comeback to bed a little over four minutes later when they added their third goal to ice the game.

Tie Pentucket 0-0
