NORTH READING — North Reading High girls’ tennis coach Matt Tiberii gave out four individual awards to his squad at the team’s banquet.

The co MVP Award went to the first-doubles team of Chloe Florez and Katherine Hoadley. The senior co-captains went an impressive 13-3 this spring.

“This was the first year they have played with each other and they jelled well,” said Tiberii.

The Coaches Award was given to senior co-captain, Alyssa Bradley, who went 9-11 at second singles.

“She is a true captain who went the extra mile for us,” said Tiberii. “She is a three-year player.”

The Unsung Heroine Award went to senior Mary Bonzagni.

“We had her with different partners at second doubles and she never complained,” said Tiberii. “She has also been on the team for three years.”

North Reading went 12-11 overall winning two playoff matches over Boston Latin Academy and Belchertown before losing to Wayland in the MIAA Division 3 Round of 8.

In the CAL, they came in 3rd place in the Kinney Division going 7-6.

“I was very happy the way the year went,” said Tiberii, who just completed his 5th year at the helm. “They exceeded my expectations.”

The Hornets will lose the four seniors to graduation.

“I feel bad for them because they had to miss their freshman year due to Covid,” said Tiberii. “I am going to miss them.”

Next year, the Hornets are slated to return 11 veterans including three starters and two other players who saw action.

“We are a rebuilding team next year so we will see what happens,” said Tiberii.
