NORTH READING — The NRHS girls’ tennis team suffered a 3-2 defeat to the Hamilton-Wenham Generals on May 24.

Gina Campagna cruised at third singles 6-1, 6-3.  At second singles, Elizabeth Grant won a tight contest 7-5, 6-3. Ava Czarnota lost 6-2, 6-4 at first singles. 

The first doubles pair of Soultana Tsaparlis and Lexi Licciardi lost 6-3, 6-2. Alyssa Bradley and Chloe Florez lost in straight sets at second doubles 6-2, 6-1.

Crush Triton 5-0

Due to temperatures in the 90s on May 26, both coaches agreed on eight-game pro sets and the Hornets cruised over Triton 5-0.

Czarnota didn’t drop a game at first singles 8-0. Tsaparlis stepped in at third singles and won with a terrific 8-1 performance. Grant carved out an 8-4 victory.

Gina Campagna teamed up with fellow junior Lexi Licciardi at first doubles and escaped 8-5.

Alyssa Bradley and sophomore Katherine Hoadley, playing in her first varsity match, completed the sweep 8-3.   The Hornets fell to Manchester-Essex in a close 3-2 matchup on Tuesday, bringing their overall record to 4-5. North Reading will host Lynnfield on Tuesday, June 8 at 4 p.m.
