NORTH READING — In their final match of the regular season on Monday afternoon, the North Reading High volleyball team won at Pentucket, 3-0, as they swept the Sachems this year.

With that victory, the Hornets finished at 10-8 overall and 8-8 in the Cape Ann League. They ended up in fifth place in the league.

“They are much improved from the first time we played them this year,” said North Reading head coach Mike Milone, about the first-year Sachems. “They have some players who fight hard.”

Shayla Wilk had 16 service points including five aces. Kristina Valenti added four kills.

On Oct. 25, the Hornets beat Triton in their final home match of the regular season 3-0 on Senior Day. With that win, North Reading was able to sweep the Vikings this fall.

Before the match, seniors Wilk and Rachel Perry were honored.

North Reading won 25-17., 25-23, and 25-23.

“It was closer than the final score would indicate,” explained Milone. “They have one outstanding player (Mia Berardino) who they run their offense through and she kept them in the match.”

Liz Kelly had seven kills and nine digs while Perry also had nine digs.

Wilk had six kills and three service aces.
