NORTH READING – It’s time to treat yourself to some true comfort food at the Lobster Bisque Lenten Luncheon this Friday, March 13 at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St.

Luncheons are held every Friday during Lent from 12 to 1 p.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall. In addition to the lobster bisque, which is made by the church’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Rick Hughes, the menu also includes a variety of homemade breads, desserts and beverages.

The suggested donation for the luncheon is $10 per person and seconds are encouraged. The dessert rotates between apple cranberry crisp, brownie sundaes and strawberry shortcake each week.

New this year is a drawing for a lovely lobster-themed handmade quilt created by Debbie Zitola from fabric that was donated to the church’s rummage sale. Generously sized at 74 by 42 inches, it is the second quilt she has made from this fabric. The first proved to be a hit at Frosty’s Fair last December.

All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to The HOME Fund to build a new home for the North Reading Food Pantry by renovating the former annex on the church property. Tickets are $1 apiece. Launched last year, The HOME Fund commemorates the 300th anniversary year of the Union Congregational Church.

Advance order bisque

Quarts of the lobster bisque are also available for a suggested donation of $10. Quarts can be ordered in advance by calling the church office, 978-664-3703, or by sending an email to: nruccoffice@aol.com.
