NORTH READING — The Martin’s Pond Association is proud to offer at least one $500 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior from the Martin’s Pond neighborhood in North Reading towards the pursuit of college or trade school. In the spirit of community pride, neighbors fully funded this award.

The scholarship will be awarded based on a submitted essay. Essays will be judged based on honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, respect for the environment, and neighborhood pride. Writing form may also be used to judge essays.

An email of the essay and the application must be received by Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Required applicant information

Applicants must provide the following information and submit it, along with their essay, by the deadline of Wednesday, April 24: Name, address, phone, email; school planning on attending/major if known and school you are graduating from; signed acknowledgement of having read and understood the rules

Rules:

• The student must be a permanent resident of the North Reading Martin’s Pond neighborhood defined as: living on Burroughs Road or any of the streets accessed by Burroughs Road, or living on any of the streets off the west side of Main Street (Route 28) north of Burroughs Road.

• The scholarship will be awarded to the student upon proof of enrollment in a college or trade school program, and must be accessed by February of 2020. A certificate will be presented at the student’s high school graduation ceremony.

• The Scholarship Sub-Committee will judge the essays without being informed of the name of the applicant or the school they will be attending.

• Please submit essay typed in 12 point Times New Roman Font, double spaced, and containing 500 to 1,000 words

Choose one of the following essay questions and submit your essay along with a scanned and signed completed copy of this form. Essay can be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF.

Remember, essays will be judged based on honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, respect for the environment, and neighborhood pride. Writing form may also be used to judge essays.

Essay questions (choose one):

1.) Photo Essay Option: Submit a photo you have taken of someplace in the Martin’s Pond neighborhood. Explain its significance.

2.) What does it mean to be a part of the Martin’s Pond community?

3.) If you could change anything about the Martin’s Pond neighborhood and you had unlimited authority to do so, what would you change?

The Scholarship Committee consists of neighborhood residents with no relatives eligible for the award.
