Last summer, the North Reading Northeast Baseball League team (ages 14-18) finished the year at 9-5 as they came in second place to Wilmington in the South division.

Marco Vittozzi returns for his 24th-season as the team’s manager and he has several players who returned from last year’s squad. Some of those veterans back are Ryan McGuire (outfielder), Craig Rubino (pitcher-shortstop), Aldo Vittozzi (third base), Alex Carucci (second base) and Zach Rosatone (outfielder).

Things have started well for the Hornets as they won their first three games of the season. They went to 3-0 on June 22  as they won at Wilmington by a final of 7-5.

North Reading rallied plating three runs in the top of the 7th inning as Vittozzi had a two-run single while Carucci added an RBI single.

Pitcher Dylan Matthews got the win in relief going 2 1/3 innings.

Christian Lava went 2 for 3 at bat.

On June 21, the Hornets defeated guest Lowell, 6-4, at North Reading High in the home opener. The Hornets plated three runs in the 6th inning to get the win.

Carucci had an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th while Vittozzi had an RBI double in the 5th.

In the season opener on June 14, North Reading won at Billerica 7-4.

Carucci had a two-run double while Max Forristall added a two-run single.

“We have gotten off to a good start,” said coach Vittozzi. “The kids have good attitudes.”

On June 30, the Hornets host Westford at 6 p.m. at North Reading High. They then welcome Lowell on July 5 with that game also staring at 6 p.m.
